Peaceful garden at Golden Crane

About Golden Crane

Twelve Years of Quiet, Caring Presence

Golden Crane began with a simple belief: that growing older should not mean growing apart from a home you love. That belief still shapes every decision we make.

Our story

Where the Idea Began

Golden Crane opened in Tuen Mun in 2013, founded by a small group of people who had each spent years working with older adults and had come to see how difficult it was to find residential arrangements that felt genuinely warm and personal. Most options available in Hong Kong at the time seemed to prioritise systems over people.

The founders wanted something different — a home where the rhythm of each day was shaped by the people living in it, not by a schedule designed for administrative convenience. A place with good food, natural light, a garden to sit in, and companions who were simply glad to be there.

Over the years, the home has welcomed more than 240 families and has adapted thoughtfully to the needs of each person who has stayed. We have learned an enormous amount from the people who have lived here — about what matters, what can be let go of, and what a good day really looks like in later life.

"Our mission is to offer a place where seniors feel known — where the small details of who they are and what they love are noticed and honoured every day."

— Golden Crane, founding statement

Our Mission

To create a residential home where every senior feels genuinely at home — attended to with care, surrounded by warmth, and given the freedom to spend their days in their own way.

Our Values

  • Dignity — every person is met with respect and unhurried attention
  • Continuity — familiar faces, familiar routines, familiar rhythms
  • Connection — to family, to community, to one's own history
  • Openness — honest conversations with families, always

Where We Are

Located on Castle Peak Road in Tuen Mun, New Territories, the home sits in a quieter part of the district with access to green spaces and local community. The area's pace suits the kind of residential life we offer.

Our approach

Standards We Hold Ourselves To

Safety & Environment

The home maintains clear safety protocols, regular inspections of communal spaces, and thoughtfully designed interiors that support confident, unhindered movement.

Food & Nutrition Care

Meals are freshly prepared with attention to cultural preferences, texture, and seasonal variety. Residents' dietary habits and preferences are recorded and honoured.

Privacy & Personal Space

Residents have private rooms they control. Personal belongings, routines, and choices are treated with complete respect. We do not share resident information without consent.

Staff Continuity

We maintain consistent care companion assignments where possible. Familiar faces matter enormously. Staff are selected for temperament as much as experience.

Family Communication

We keep families informed and welcome their input. Quarterly gatherings, open visiting hours, and direct access to the coordinator support ongoing connection.

Regulatory Compliance

Golden Crane operates in accordance with the requirements of the Social Welfare Department of Hong Kong and holds the appropriate residential care home registration.

Senior Residential Living in Tuen Mun, New Territories

Tuen Mun has long been home to a close-knit community of families and older residents who value the area's slower pace and access to green space. Golden Crane has been part of this neighbourhood since 2013, offering long-term residential stays for seniors who wish to remain in the New Territories rather than relocating to busier parts of the city.

Our home accommodates residents who are largely independent in their daily lives and who are looking primarily for companionship, good food, and a comfortable, personalised living space. We do not offer clinical or nursing care, and we are open about this so that families can make informed decisions about the right kind of arrangement.

For families across Hong Kong — whether in Kowloon, the New Territories, or the Islands — Golden Crane offers a residential option that keeps seniors close to family while giving them a rich, attended, and genuinely homelike environment. We welcome visits and conversations at any stage of a family's thinking.
